The Socially Networked Classroom

Educators now are overcoming the fear of using technology in the classroom, and are using digital resources in a variety of ways to support teaching and learning. Educators use technology for power learning such as electronic grade books, digital portfolios, learning games. When reading through this online safety I would like to mention how kids are involved in their screen time, they don’t understand the safety. My son was playing some games, and he mentioned me how he was asked to give his address through games. My husband and I don’t feel good and safe about it as it allows strangers to chat with him and this kind of app is not safe. I think safety lessons will help them understand how to keep themselves safe.
Creating series of lessons like The Seattle Public schools mentioned in the book will help educators keep the kid’s online safety. Blogging is a great way to encourage students to express their ideas, be creative, develop confidence in writing, to communicate and collaborate with peers and the teacher. It can help student master the content and improve writing skills. Blogging has helped me in my online presence and made me more reflective in learning about blogs, and how we can use them with students. I used to believe blogs are generally for cooking or recipes. I was fascinating to know about Zoey’s room how they encourage girls to explore STEM. I heard from my friend on how she was plagiarized on her painting.

It is all about the internet safeties. Teachers using educational apps and websites are concerned about these internet safeties. Internet comes with positive and negative effects on students. We use social media as a platform for broadcasting information, communication channel. In schools social networking is used as platform were, we communicate with one another as a two-way nature. Teaching internet safety to student will make them a digital citizenship. I believe inquiry lesson are very helpful as teacher and student have a back and forth flow of knowledge. It begins when the teacher poses an idea or concept and then asks targeted questions. This leads to students sharing their ideas and asking additional questions. This helps students more curios about the topic and encourage them to research more on topics.

These chapters were interesting to read and enrich my knowledge.
